Our First Family Vaca with Clara-Part 1

So, we made the trek out to Houston this weekend for my cousin's wedding reception. It was a week of record heat, and in Houston by the bay (which was where we were), it was going to be really hot! We left on Friday morning so we could take our time(not knowing how Clara would do in the car). Our first stop was the world famous Golden Arches just off of I-35 and Mockingbird... we didn't get far before she needed to eat more.
First stop of the day-McDonalds

Stop #2 was in the very popular Buc-ee's in Madisonville, Tx. It was a glorified gas station with dipin dots ice cream, and pecan rolls-a classic tourist trap.

This is only the first half of our first day. It was a long day but we took our time on purpose. ; )
Enjoy the postings to come.

You read it right!

We are now officially in the "7 seater" club. Meaning, we have a minivan. The reason? well, we have 5 people in our family and we make frequent trips to New Mexico, and we need the space. It was a really good deal for an old van and we are really happy with it so far. We are sad to see our car go but know we will see more in our van. That does not make sense, but I have nothing better to say. I'll just end with this: Yes we have a minivan.

4 Weeks Old

It is hard to believe our little Clara is already 4 weeks old! I guess time really runs together when you are sleep deprived! We have been really blessed with great friends who have been making the transition easier by bringing us dinner. It has been delicious and extremely helpful. I am doing my best at typing with one hand (Clara in the other), but cooking with one hand would be harder-so thank you!!!

Here are some of the milestones (if you will) that Clara has accomplished this week. 1. She is eating (a lot)
2. Gained 2 pounds (now weighing in at 10 pounds even)
3. Grunts (a lot)
4. Sometimes lets out a distressed whimper that sounds sooo sad!
5. Started taking a pacifier (because she was eating too much-Doctor's orders)
6. Started dieting...approx 5 min on each side instead of 10 due to the "see-food diet" she inherited from mom. She eats too much and then spits it up...but no,I'm NOT bulemic.
7. She has had her first studio movie grill experience (I know we are crazy)

um...I know there are more sweet thing she is doing, but I can't think...it's 5a.m.
So, here are some pics to show what she's been up to.

sleeping is such hard work. "mom, no more pictures-PLEASE!!!!"

Aunt Jessie and Uncle Clay came by to keep me company while Jason was out of town for two nights for the staff retreat. Did I mention he was gone the night the tornado sirens went off in FB? This headband was a gift from Bonnie's Orchestra teacher. The flower is almost bigger than her head. We had to try it on though!

I will post a video of Clara thumping her leg later today. It's really funny. Have a blessed day!

Sweet day of nothing

So today was a sweet day. I have no pictures to show though so feel free to skip this post. ; )
First, the girls are all done with school. YEAH!! Second, Jason told me I was to spend the day at home no matter what! So-I did. It is almost 9:30pm and I have not brushed my teeth or taken a shower and am still in my pj's. I just laid Clara down for bed and did not have to change her either because she also was still in her pj's. Is that gross?

Anyway, she lost her cord this morning so that means we get to do a full body bath. That should be fun! She was awake a lot today and it was fun just to see her big eyes staring up at me. She is starting to make more noises not just when she sleeps or eats, but when she is awake too! Elena loves giving her kisses and Bonnie is great at holding her-she calls on Jason or I to change diapers though. : )

Right now I am also working on Clara's baby book. We decided to do a Creative Memories scrapbook but here is the kicker-I am doing it on the computer! It is really easy and allows me to be super creative and not have the mess of paper, stickers and all of the stuff that goes with it! Plus-it has spell check!

Elena speant most of the day saying "I am bored out of my mind." I hear that says a lot about me and my ability to entertain an 8 year old! : ) But we made up for it tonight. Elena invited one friend to come over and spend the night, and at 8:00 this evening, the girls went from 2 to 4. Needless to say, Jason and Bonnie left and went to see a movie. Hmmm how old do yo have to be to leave kids at home by themselves? Luckily Clara is NOT a light sleeper-scratch that. She just woke up. : )

Anyway, it was a sweet day with both younger girls in my life (Bonnie was with a friend). I hope to have more days like this.

Almost two weeks old!

Ok, so Clara is almost two weeks old and I figure we had better post some more pictures before I get into trouble by some who may remain namelss! ; )

May I say, first that it has been such a great week and a half. Clara has made our enitre house light up. Bonnie and Elena have loved holding her, kissing her and playing with her. Although there is not much playing-but occasionally she will stay awak long enough to make us feel like she is really listening to us and knows our voices. The week we came home from the hospital (memorial day weekend) Jason's grandparents and great Aunt were in town and they came over to the house a lot. My mom and mother in law were also in town and helped us out at the house a lot. It was a very special week and weekend not only because we got to have our baby girl but because most of our family was here to share it with us.

I will also say that the day she came (May 21st) we got to the hospital at 5am and they started the pitocin around 6:20am. I went without the epidural until 5cm which was around 11am. All day I had friends and family coming in and out. At one point I felt well enough to play a game of Phase 10 with Mona and Jessica...that was funny! I at one point had a hard time remember which phase I was on bc of the drugs. So-we stopped. I also had several movies-"Yes Man," "Moulin Rouge" "Seven Pounds" (Which I do not reccomed while you are in labor-very depressing). Then around 7:30 my doc came in and she broke my water. Around 2 or so the Doc came back and she was sure we would have a baby no later than 5pm that evening. Woo-hoo!!! But that was not the case. Around 8:30 or so the Doc came back and said we had along time of pushing ahead of us so I needed to get started. Well, long story short and two and a half ours of pushing later-Clara had her first breath of air! It was sweet and I was exhausted! But could not have done it without the support and prayers of all of you. Thank you a thousand times. You are a blessing to us. Your thoughts and prayers got us through this long day and have humbled me to the miracle of life that only God has the power to give.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the last week and a half. I hope you enjoy our little miracle as much as we do.

Jason and I went to Target with Clara and when we opened the car door, this is what we saw...either she had pulled her head band down, or it was too big to start with. Either way, it is too cute!

Here are some pictures of some of Miss Clara's firsts this week. This is a picture of us at the pediatricians office Tuesday May 26th. That was a very busy day for us... Our friend Krisitn happened to be at the Doc's office so she offered to take a pic of the three of us. Notice the book Jason is hold "Quiet and Loud." The loud part of the book happened to be on the the same side I was sitting on. Jason thought he was funny.

Here is Dr. Siedel showing Clara who was in control. He wrapped her up so fast that she had no idea what happened. The look on her face says it all.

Here is her first bath. We were not sure what the best way was to do this-so we had a major team effort!

Big sister Elena had a talent show on the 26th and we decided to venture out into the world to listen to the talent at Janie Stark. Clara was not too impressed, however, as she slept the entire time.
